We've scheduled some companies to come measure and give us a quote for new windows, and we're trying to find the midpoint between "the best money can buy" and "the best OUR money can buy." Existing windows are 1954, single pane, with storms, so pretty much anything will be an improvement.
In trying to save money, though, I'm wondering if there's an appreciable price difference between single hung and double hung -- ie, putting DH on the second floor, and SH on the first, or low-e vs low-e plus argon -- is plain low-e not much better than clear glass?
Thanks!

Not really a big difference and most of the top quality lines are not even offered in a single hung configuration.gretchen wrote:We've scheduled some companies to come measure and give us a quote for new windows, and we're trying to find the midpoint between "the best money can buy" and "the best OUR money can buy." Most manufacturers bundle low-e and argon together.
Yes, plain low-e is worlds better than clear glass and much more applicable if you live in Maine. Opt for argon as well given your location.
