Hey all, have been researching for new windows. We are in our first house, and won't stay here long, so don't need the best windows money can buy. Got a few qoutes today, and are trying to decide on a couple of issues.
1. does it really matter if the frame is filled with foam??
2. is the fusion welded frame that much better than a screwed one??
3. is the low E and argon option worth it??
Please, not looking for a fight, just need to know a few opionions, Thanks
Couple of newbie questions

1. No, not really. Gives you a little better condensation resistance rating and slightly better frame performance but not significant when compared to a good multi-chambered vinyl frame.railfan wrote:Hey all, have been researching for new windows. 2. Yes. It should be cheaper for that matter as well. Requires less hands to touch it.
3. Yes. Shouldn't buy a window without it.
WOW thanks for the quick reply, although the fusion welded frame appears to be about a 40.00 per window upgrade from 2 of the 3 companies we had out today, also, we currently have aluminum 30+ year old single pane windows, and one company was talking a bunch of extra money because of all of the extra labor involved in "tear out"?? Does this sound correct??

The reason that I say that fusion welding should be as cheap as mechanical because if a factory has the machinery to do the welds, it actualy takes less time and less parts to fusion weld a frame. It is pretty much an industry standard and I would shy away for a window that is mechanically fastened. Mechanically fastened windows are typically a builders grade product and do have some application in openings were you need to manipulate a window to fit.railfan wrote:WOW thanks for the quick reply, although the fusion welded frame appears to be about a 40.00 per window upgrade from 2 of the 3 companies we had out today, also, we currently have aluminum 30+ year old single pane windows, and one company was talking a bunch of extra money because of all of the extra labor involved in "tear out"?? As far as the aluminum tear out costs, what are you talking about when you said a "bunch" of extra money to tear out?
