Simonton offer a shadow groove weld ???

Simonton offer a shadow groove weld ???

i was at a local builing supply house and saw a simonton,maybe the 5500 and it seemed to have a grooved weld line ..is this something simonton is doing now?

They've had shadow grooves for a very long time.
They don't do the main frames or the outside of the sashes, just the inside sashes. They don't do quite as nice a job grooving them as Force V but they are still nice.

Yes. I carry the Simonton 9800 as one of my many brands and it's a very well rated window. It has Superspacer as a feature too..

The Shadow Groove does look nice but it weakens the weld. When I sold Schuco I ran into that problem a few times on the Double Hungs and especially with there Patio Doors.

I've sold Schuco for years and years and never had a single weld problem that wasn't the fault of the delivery driver dropping them too hard on the corner when handling them. That's maybe 2 or 3 welds in thousands of windows delivered to me. Not a big issue as far as I'm concerned.

Most of mine was from someone dropping the window,but it didn't take much to crack the weld. I never ran into that problem on any other of the windows I sold. It does weaken the weld slightly.
