New Simonton Glass Packages

#1 Post by Bill »

Simonton released three new glass packages for the 5500 and two for the 9800 that meet the tax rebate standard with and without grids; they are all 7/8” in thickness with availability in both their standard low-e and the low-366.

They are slightly less expensive alternatives to the 1” glass systems and they maintain their U.30 rating in all sizes and design pressures.

The 7300 & 7500 are both West Coast windows and the product lines are totally different; I never see any information regarding the West Coast glass packages.

Sorry, one part of my above information was incorrect. The first glass system in the 5500 ( ETC Starter) is a ¾” glass pack, the other two are 7/8”

What do you guys think of the new glass packages?
As a homeowner looking for new windows, I was hoping for some better U-factor numbers.....

Alside Ultra-Max with Climatech Elite will beat a Simonton any day in price and quality.

Sorry to disagree, but any of Simonton series of windows will beat Ultramaxx in quality and quality of engineering. As far as price, super low price in this business is achieved by cutting corners. That can be in the manufacture and/or the installation.

The Ultramaxx is a leaky poorly designed window that runs rainwater through it's sill. Mold, bugs and dirt can end up inside the 'sill' extrusion where a homeowner can't get in to clean. Heaven forbid the weep holes get clogged because the window can fill up with water, pour over the interior of the sill, down the wall and onto the carpet. I've seen it happen on pocket sills many times.
Simonton spends the money on the equipment needed to cut and weld dissimilar profiles to achieve a true sloped sill like sills are supposed to be, .....instead of using a side extrusion on all 4 sides of the window to save money and then using a snap-in to make the bottom act like a sill.

In everything except slope of sill, design, air leakage, and percentage of glass. Other than that, it is a clear winner.
