Gorell 5100 Armor Glass quote

Hello
New quote for three double hung windows put together that fit into one rough opening: 96" x 72". $1800 installed including tax.
5100 model with the Armor Glass laminated. I'm getting the Armor glass because of heavy road noise.

This is the best price I've seen. The 5300 model is about $600 more.

Any reason to upgrade to the 5300?

The salesperson said the Energy tax credit means I get about $500 back from the $1800 price.

THE 5300 IS A THICKER FRAME AND FOAM FILLED-BETTER PERFORMANCE NUMBERS. I'D PAY THE EXTRA 600 AND GO WITH THE THE 5300.

Actually, the 5300 has a 29/28 slightly better numbers to begin with than a 5155 30/29. However the 5300 will hold those numbers better than the 5100. IOW, 15 years down the road the 5300 will be perfroming better than the 5100. For the extra $600 I'd recommend the 5300.

Better frame design, more weather striping, better interlock, etc.

I'm leaning toward the 5100 because I plan on staying here maybe 3-4 more years. The $1800 total price for three windows (including tax, installation) is the best quote I've received.

A Gorell sales rep said the Armor Glass Plus has these specs:
"Overall thickness is 7/8 inch the low e glass is 1/8 inch the laminated glass is about a 1/4 inch thick so you would end up with about a 1/2 inch dead air space filled with argon gas."
This sounds about right for reducing sound.

I'm waiting on a Simonton rep to give me specs on their 9800 Impressions with Super Sensor Plus glass. Their price is just $200 more total for all three windows.

BTW, another company in Atlanta quoted me $4,000 for the exact same Gorell 5100's in the $1,800 quote. I guess it pays to shop around.

1800 sounds very cheap for armor glass especially for only 3 windows..usually the less you buy,the more you pay.

Placed my order today. Quote is for 3 Gorell 5100 series double hung with Armor Glass Plus for $1800 total.

I was suprised that these windows do not qualify for Energy Tax credit after June 1, 2009. I think the SHGC is .32

But I contacted Gorell and they said these do qualify before June 1, 2009 because they are Energy Star for my area. I found a manufacturer's certification statement so I hope that's enough for my accountant.

I'll post an update after they are installed.

I had the windows installed yesterday. Took them about 5 hours to install. Each window came with a certificate that said they qualify for the 2009 energy tax credit. .30/.26
The windows were very heavy but they got them up to the third floor.

These windows are a noticeable improvement in blocking outside noise. I compared to another room that faces same road and has the original windows.
I was hoping for a little more sound blocking, I can still hear big buses and trucks rumble by. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

michaell1999- I know it's been a couple of yrs but I'm hoping you can give a follow up/long term review on the Gorrell Armor plus.
