Feldco Sophia Windows
Feldco Sophia Windows
I am a new homeowner looking into buying new windows. our house was built in the 40's or 50's and we think it has the original windows. so they are in need of some updating. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago, if this changes anything.
Last night Feldco came in and did his whole sales pitch. He did sell my wife on the windows, but we were wondering if there Sophia series windows are really all that cracked up to how he explain them.
He said he can match or beat any window that compares to their window. Which is nice but I still would like to get the best windows I can afford. We could get 7 double hung windows for roughly $3,300 installed with their lifetime warranty. and to top that off we qualify for the tax credit.
Feldco has a 33% off, which is included in the $3,300, sale that ends this month and we would get another 30% off for the tax credit. Sounds like a pretty good deal.
But what I really want to know is, has anyone here ever dealt with Feldco?
He did just come and sell us on the windows, but we do have a couple more companies coming out to do the same. but I don’t want to be screwed with bad windows that won’t last or do the right job.
Also we have a very close family friend that has done a lot of work with our families and I want some opinions on going this route... buying the windows myself and having a contractor put them in for me.
Thanks in advance,
Ted

$500 per window is not a bad price for a good window, based on the sales banter and tactics I would think the window is cheap.

Wow...33% off. What did you do to twist his arm??
Not poking fun, I just love the sales gimmicks that some companies employ. I would give Window4U a holler too. He has some windows that blow away that Feldco line.

They have a big discount going on for this month only. If I were have some one install the windows for me, like the person you have told me about, would there be any dory if warranty?
Thanks

Re: Feldco Sophia Windows
Feldco always has a "sale" of some kind that is getting ready to end. If you wait a month they will still sell you the windows at that same price, ....I guarantee it!
As far as the window, it's a pocket sill window which is a window that runs rain water through the bottom sill extrusions and eventually out the weep holes. I don't know anyone who is educated about pocket sills who would want a window like that instead of having a window with a true sloped sill. Ask yourself, would you want water sitting inside your window frame after it rains?
There are companies all over that have better windows for the same money. I'd suggest looking at some. Good luck.

FYI, for those who would like to compare, feldco's window is made by Thermal Industries. Not a terrible window, but not great either, IMHO. I don't particularly care for the pocket sill and a few of the other features. It is a pretty old design in general.

Better windows out there for the price, better companies too. If Feldco stuck their lawyers on me for telling the truth, I be doing at least 10-years in the pen. I've watched Casino and Good Fellas too many times.
