HELP PLEASE - Rockland County, NY - Confused!

#1 Post by LizD »

Hello!
We have had several estimates from larger companies - Thermotite, Tri-State and 2 local companies. We also visited Windowrama in Nanuet.
We're replacing 22 double hung windows and our heads are spinning.
Does anyone have ANY solid advice for us?

And windowexpert---We did like the window that Thermotite presented, but then read lots of negative reviews, so we were back to square one.

Then we just discovered this site.

Hubby wants to take advantage of the energy tax credit - I'm concerned about the glass not letting in enough light. We're in the early stages and didn't realize how many options there would be. Finding the "best value" when you don't know the industry is a challenge.

Thanks for the response.

Low-e glass will let in plenty of light in fact unless you had 2 windows side by side, one with and one without I doubt you would notice. Most don't. Price doesn't always assure quality but get the best window your budget will allow. You can't overkill on replacement windows.

What brands are you looking at. I'm in Florida and don't know what those companies sell. Interested to know.

Thermo-tite & US Window Factory say they manufacture their own....???

Thanks for the encouragement about the windows not being too dark, Windows-Dun.

We're now looking at Simonton.

Also, 2 local contractors use Earthwise Eclipse. Have to investigate them.

Thanks for the replies!

I would recommend the Simonton 5500. Mainly because I don't know a lot about the Earthwise Window but I do know a great deal about Simonton windows and I know you can't go wrong with Simonton. First class customer service, one of the best warranties and If you have a warranty issue, they will make it right in a very timely manner. Again, nothing against Earthwise.

Thank you Skydawggy!
Guy is coming Tuesday to measure & give us exact quote for Simonton.

Found out that Earthwise used to be Mastic, now a new name....
All 3 local contractors use Earthwise.

Had to "track down" local distributor for Simonton, but we found one and a local guy who has installed them for 10 years. Getting close to a decision for Simonton unless
price is WAY over....

Thanks SO much for your response.
