Simonton 6500 Vinyl window - NEED Specs on window please

#1 Post by houseostyle »

So Home Depot just quoted me $8800 on 14 windows from Simonton 6500 series vinyl window. I really wanted the storm breaker plus but not willing to spend $1000 each window. I have a brochure on the 6500 but NO Techincal specs on the window. And I can't find anything online.

I am looking for the U rating, STC rating, R value, Visible Transmittance, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, and UV Block.

Please can someone help me... Thanks

It's the same window as the Reflections 5500 and the Prism Platinum. Just rebranded for Home Depot.

I emailed Simonton and received this answer......

Due to the contract that Simonton has with The Home Depot we are unable to discuss the Home Depot line of windows. We do manufacture their private label, 6500, 6100 and 6060 however, all inquires about the windows such as marketing, sales, warranty issues, etc...must be directed to your local THD representative, or call 1-800-553-3199, for further assistance.

They have to say that or risk losing the national HD account. As I said, it's the same window as the Reflections 5500/Prism Platinum. You can very likely save some money and probably get a better install by going through a local Simonton dealer.

Thanks Sky - my most important reason to replace my windows is to block the sound I really wanted the storm breaker plus - great ratings - energy efficient and a HIGH STC rating which is my top concern but the price tag of $1000++ each was out of my range. If I am going to spend my money on new windows I want to spend a little more for a window that will give me peace at night

What area are you in?

You can get the Stormbreaker Plus 300 VL through most Simonton Dealers.

You could just order the Reflections 5500/Prism Platinum with laminated 366 glass and sash reinforcements. Depending on the size that should'nt add more than $100-$150 per window.

I got a quote from HD today for $535 per window for their 6500 standard package. 366 will be about $120 more. About the specs, their sales don't even talk about it, which is really weird. I am in CT.

Skydawg is right on the money with his suggestion. Go with an independent contractor, request the window that Skydawg's suggesting and you'll be dollars ahead.

During the sales pitch I wrote down 3 numbers on their windows - 0.31, 0.30, 0.44. He also mentioned super spacer. For E366 I think the second number dropped to 0.23 something. Does this help?

Yes. You need at .30 U value or lower to qualify for the tax credit. It's easily attainable with the right glazing package. I'll give you more details when I get back to the office on Monday. Once again, I'd really recommend you going a different route and getting an estimate from a couple of independent contractors. Home Depot is a sales organization with little relative passion for - or expertise in windows. Find a professional contractor who has a real passion for windows and they'll do the job right the first time and be more than happy to educate you on the details of making the right window purchase for your home. For them, windows aren't a job, it's a profession and a passion. There's a massive difference.

The first number is likely the U-factor for standard LoE glass with intercept spacer. The second number is probably the U-factor with 366 glass. .44 is probably VT for the entire window with 366 glass and the .23 is probably the SHGC.

I'd contact a professional company who is a Simonton Dealer and let them go over the different glass packages. It may be best for you to have either ETC 366 Starter, ETC Super Solar, ETC Super 366, Solar System AR Glass, LoE3-366 or the Super Spacer Glass package.

You aren't going to find out which is best for you unless you contact an industry professional. Choosing the wrong glass can actually cause you utility bills to increase and you will have to live with that mistake for a very long time.
