Seeking Advice on New Window Types, Companies and Cost

#1 Post by tom0156 »

Am planning on replacing 2 or 3 28"x 40" windows in a 70 year old home near Cleveland, OH

Have zero knowledge in what to look for in specification and price. Started my research and stumbled across this site.

We only plan to live here another 2-3 years so we would like "average" quality windows, aren't looking for top of the line.

Any recommendations on type/model of window that fits the "average" category, companies that aren't overpriced and
are fair and honest and ballpark dollar amount that we should expect to pay?

Any feedback to help my education process would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

1. You will likely find lead in your openings given the age of the home. You will need to have them tested or proceed within the RRP regulations.
2. OH is center of the window universe. You have your pick of the litter.
3. Don't pre-define your window choices by price in terms of what is good vs. bad. There are plenty of bad windows sold for premium prices.
4. Keep researching. Regardless of the small scale of the project, the onus is on you to figure out what you actually need.
5. Keep us posted and post up questions as they arise.
