Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
I got a quote for $2900(windows only) for 9 Simonton 5500 windows with the following specs:
contoured grids
double strength glass
half screens
The average size is about 30x60.
Also, I got a quote on Harvey Classics for $2100 for the same.
Are Simonton 5500's that much better than the Harvey Classics?
Thanks

Did he steal them off the back of a truck?
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
The Simonton price is from a contractor and the Harvey price is directly from Harvey.

Is that an installed price?
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
No, I'm asking about windows only.
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
I'm not familiar with Harvey windows, but the performance numbers listed on their site look pretty decent.
Simonton's 5500 is a good choice for DIY.

I'm just wondering if the Simonton 5500 should be over $300 a window? Seems high or is this a normal price?

High compared to what?
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
Compared to nothing, is this a normal price for the Simonton 5500's? The guy giving me the price is claiming that they are his cost.

Could very well be his cost on those units.

Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
Could be below his cost. I'm sure he's not making any money at that price.
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
Ok thanks guys, I guess I have to try to decide if the Simontons are worth that much more than the Harvey Classics unless you guys have any other suggestions.
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
I was quoted $275 for the Simonton 5500 with Low-E and argon gas, but I believe it is single strength.

Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
Sounds good... Cost is hard to determine as his true cost will include his time spent on your dealings, shipping and receiving the product, as well as all of his other cost of doing business/overhead expenses like rent, marketing, etc. If he sold them merely for what he paid the manufacturer, he'd be losing money.
Re: Simonton 5500 - Is this a good price?
I went out to a couple different places today and was able to find them for just under $2400 so now he is going to see if his supplier will match the price, if not he will use the place I found. It pays to shop around thats for sure.
