Replacing casement windows

#1 Post by camel589 »

Hello...I appreciate this board and this is my first post, so be gentle. I need to replace Old wood Anderson casement windows that are rotting away.

Central NY
Require bronze outside color, white inside

6 double casement windows
1 double casement with fixed center
2 single casements
3 double hung

I have quotes from 4 sources;

Champion - $12,xxx

Slocomb - $12,xxx
Classic weather shield plus, double pane with heat shield low e, argon

Interstate - $11,4xx
Fuel saver, triple pane

Ply gem $7,7xx
Premium , hp, double pane

My question is the ply gem quote to good to be true. Oddly enough this contractor has done work for three friends, all with good recommendations. Is the ply gem a lower grade window compared to the other three windows?

Thanks for any thoughts on this!!!!

yes, plygem is a lower grade. i would also look at some other high end brands such as okna/hiMark - gorell, sunrise. also, there is a pro who frequents this board who not only is a consumate professional, but also a good guy. his user name is " buddy 11 " . do a board search and click the contact button. i think he may serve your area.

The Sunrise, Soft-Lite, and HiMark casement are all superior offerings to what you have already been quoted.

+1 on talking to buddy if he serves your area. You can find him in this thread:
