thin/slim frame vs regular frame
thin/slim frame vs regular frame
I'm confused regarding the slim frames. I thought that the slim frames were retro fit frames. But after doing more research I'm concerned that they are not built as well. I have aluminum frame windows in my 1965 house now and was told by one of the estimates that the 2 3/8" frame would fit my window better then the 3 1/4" frame. Any comments regarding the use of slim frames would be appreciated.

a high end vinyl extrusion is well formulated and will have thicker outer walls enabling a window to have a more narrow frame without compromising stuctural integrity.. Okna Enviro Star (800 ) is a great example.

Sounds like the advice was in reference to the amount of modifications needed to cut back the existing sheet rock/jamb extensions and stool cap?

you most certainly can use a 3 1/4 with no problem.

DM and masterext hit the nail on the head.
No reason that a 3 1/4 frame will not work unless your home is made of something smaller than 2x4s.
