How do I remove a wallside sliding door?

#1 Post by bsaisho »

I just want to move large items in and out of my house through the patio door. There seems to be a device at the top of the sliding and stationary door that prevents lifting the doors out of the track. How do you remove it without damaging it? Thanks in advanced.

There is typically a bumper of some sort up in the head jamb for security. Some times it is simply pressure fit, sometimes there are fasteners. You'll just need to take a close look... Also remember that you will probably need to adjust to door rollers all the way in for added clearance.

+1

Post up a picture of the door if you can I am sure you will get more exacting instructions.

Pop out the active panel first and then tackle the inactive panel.

Some fixed panels are also screwed in place too.

Thanks for the replies. As suggested I will try to post some images. The active panel may remove if I lower it all the way but it will be tight.

It will come out as long as the door was put in level.

Drop the rollers all the way down and lift up and out.

The inactive panel has to have some sort blocker, screw, bracket or combination.

The fixed panel has a snap in piece on the threshold that you have to pull up. The top of the fixed panel may have an L bracket and or brackets on the jamb.
We are doing more units, retrofit today that are factory assembled and the fixed panel is back screwed through the jamb, in which case the only way to remove the fixed panel is to cut it out or remove the whole frame. Not the case with your unit.
