Would using closed cell foam be wrong in that it creates a vapor barrier?

Negative anthony. CC SPF is a class II vapor retarder at most of the depths it will be installed.

The other lack of a concern in this case is that the CC SPF is also a complete air barrier. Stopping the air = Stopping the moisture so the point is largely moot at that point.
