Rusting Lintels

#1 Post by RobDMB »

I am going to proceed with a home window replacement project and thought before that it might be good for me to repaint the lintels on my brick home. They are not overly rusty but some rust is starting to show through the white paint that is currently on the lintels. What would be the proper procedure to repaint these? Do I simply paint over them with exterior paint, or do I need to use some kind of rust stripper/primer before I paint? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

All of the paint manufacturers will have a paint that is specially formulated for painting rusted steel. The paint will stop the rust in process while providing the painted finish in one product. That's what you need to get.

Thanks. Anyone have a recommendation of a product to look for that may be readily available?

Rustoleum makes a good primer and paint combo.
