#1 Post by artee »

Hi Y'all, I'm a property manager about to change over 1,000 windows with vinyl replacements.
my choices are:
-United-series 4800
-Mercury excellum- advantage series 6
-Superseal- builder series
Does anyone have unbiased professional input?
any info is much appreciated

There is plenty of unbiased information here.

Where is the property located and is this the best of your options?

what are the criteria for the windows:
color? function? glazing? wall thickness of extrusions? AI/DP? warranty?
Are you looking for the cheapest thing or the best value?

We're located in CT. looking for cheap but energy efficient because we pay utilities. needs to score 30 or under in u-factor bec there is a program that will possibly subsidize based on tenants income. this is what the quotes boiled down to

There is no such thing as " cheap but energy efficient". If you purchase a window just because it appears to have a decent Ufactor, you will be regretting your decison.
Pay extra and get something that lasts..i would much rather see you do your project in stages while prioritizing .

U= .30 or less does not give you a very good look at how the window will perform.
An easy gauge is the tested and actual AI (air infiltration), all windows to consider will have had this test done, it is under the "structural test" part of the reports.
I always suggest that the windows be .09 or less for AI. The best are twice better in that they will be .05 or less.
For instance Okna windows has several series that would meet my suggested levels, and they are available in your area.
Are you doing the install with your own maintenance people or will the project be supplied and installed?

+1 to the previous comments.

Where in CT are you located?

We have a pretty good network of installers and manufacturers that we could point you in the right direct.

Feel free to email me and I can give you some suggestions.
