Window Treatments After Installation of Replacement Windows

#1 Post by mfer2k »

I just had Okna 500 replacement windows installed based on the recommendations of this website, they look great and very dependable so I thank you all for your advice.

One thing I didn't account for was window treatments. I'm now learning that all of the blinds I had installed into the top of the window frame cannot be re-installed there since the new vinyl frame is covering the inside frame.

I can obviously install rods and hang drapes or do some sort of Roman shades installed above the window, but are these the only options for me now? Any advice would be much appreciated.

There are bunch of ways to skin the window treatments cat. Post up some pictures and we will get you some ideas.

Congrats on the windows and I hope they work well for you.

Without seeing any images....it sounds that you may have had "inside mounts" for your window treatments, prior to replacement. You may be forced to go to an "outside mount" to hang treatments. The good thing, in most cases, you are not limited to shades. You can use mini blinds, wood blinds, etc.

Here's a picture. Every window in the house has this trim around it.

This can't be done as an inside mount anymore.

You need to mount this to the casing now.

That's what I was afraid of. It looks like a large investment in new outside mount window treatments is in my future.

If you cut the stop material back in the corners, you can, in theory, install them as inside mounts.

What type of blinds are they? If they are heavy, it is going to be tough to hang them from that small section.
