Okna vs Sunrise

#1 Post by Mkra »

We have been quoted both Starmark (Okna)with krypton gas and Sunrise w/ultra plus and Apex (in bathroom) with argon gas. They both seem like decent windows, but Starmark is close to double the price. Is it worth the difference when you have 21 windows to 21 panes to replace? Starmark rep.claims 47% reduction in energy costs. Is this reasonable? How does Sunrise rate on energy reduction costs?

You are comparing 2 different type products with completely different glass options. You should be comparing the Sunrise to Okna 800 or 500's. It would be misleading and unprofessional to quote those energy savings unless they're willing to put it in writing and back it up with there checkbook. The Starmark would not be worth the difference performance wise.

Quoting energy savings is a big red flag to me.

+2. I like the Starmark window, but the energy savings forecast is bogus. U factor, shgc , and air infiltration will be good indicators of how products compare in terms of energy savings.

As Todd suggested, a more accurate comparison would be the 500 series by Okna assuming that you are looking at the base Sunrise model... Not really fair to compare a high end composite to a mid-tier option from a vinyl line (albeit a very good one).
