Burris in Houston, how are they value for money

#1 Post by TheoInTx »

Any comment Burris AC single hung in Houston for about $8K with 366 glass. Should we keep looking, any other windows with better performance and similar looks

I believe that Burris uses the Veka SH46 profiles for these windows.

I am interested in the comparison to

Simonton proline builder Single hung
Simonton Prism Gold Double hung (single not available)
NT window Solar Pro ( have not been able to find much structural info on these)
NT window executive
NT window 8000

For all we are looking at similar Low E 366 IG packages, (thinkness between 3/4, 7/8 and 1" depending on frame capacity)

Going to need a bit more information than that.

Keep in mind, this isn't really a check price "X" site because we can't really know what the cost of doing business in a given area is.

Randy does serve Houston and knows the product offering there quite well.

Sorry, I was in Honduras last week.

I'd keep looking. NT's Energy Master, Presidential, or 8000 would all be better choices IMO.

Randy, board readers,

How do the NT solar pro and Energy Master compare to each other?
Are they the same profiles? Do they have the same AI numbers, Sealing, reinforcement and SGCA numbers for identical IG ?

Also
back to Simonton, thoughts on Generations? (always with 366 IG with Argon, 7/8" in this case)
How do they compare to NT Solar Pro and Energy Master (if the same)
I know they have no reinforcement yet have been around for 7-10 years.
Is there bowing ?

The NT 8000 is nearly 65% more expensive that SolarPro, that is difficult to justify by the performance numbers...

The Generations are 15% more than NT SolarPro

I wish there was a site for windows... like the car comparison sites
Everyone publishes their no's and we can all compare apples to apples to oranges..
Fortunately there are boards and fora.

Kind Regards,
Theo

I've never heard of the Solar Pro from NT. It's probably just a rebranded Energy Master or Presidential. The NT 8000 is basically the Presidential with a few tweaks. It's certainly not worth much more than the other lines from NT.

Simonton is a mid-grade vinyl window just like NT. The difference is that Simonton doesn't automatically reinforce their sashes and NT does. That's a big deal in Texas as unreinforced vinyl sashes will almost always bow in time. Have you checked the BBB records of the companies you're considering?

Generations window also known as the 7500 series is Simonton’s top of the line private label window. This window is the same as the Impressions 9800 with a different lift handle design; it’s a good solid product.

Randy is correct reinforcement is not standard unless the window is very large; if you choose this window ask for the window design pressure to be upgraded to DP50 and then reinforcement is added to the window despite its size.

What does the DP 50/55 upgrade get you then?

The standard DP for the Reflections 5500 double hung is DP25 and will have a solid cavity plug in the sill at the bottom of the balance channel sealing the sill only allowing water drainage off the sloped sill.. For windows up to and including 36” wide going to DP50 only entails that same plug to be slotted allowing water to drain to the main frame weep holes. The window structurally is a DP50 but the water is DP 25 until the drainage is opened up.

For windows over 36” wide sash reinforcement is added for DP50 as well
For DP55 all sizes require the slotted plug, sash reinforcement and sometimes thicker glass

No this type of detail is not found on the Simonton web site. We are Simonton distributors and have their order entry system on our computer so as I change size and select different DP ratings I can view what is changing with the components of the window.
