Window Advice for SE Wisconsin

#1 Post by stackdaddy67 »

We are looking to replace our 30 +/- year old Anderson wood casements on our home in SE WI. We had Sears out and Mad City Windows as well, we signed an agreement with Mad City but upon reading the fine print in the agreement and learning that 80% of the verbal guarantees made by the salesman are not true/don’t have to be honored (being verbal) we are cancelling the agreement via certified mail within our 3 day right to rescind period. Another factor which inspired up to cancel was online reviews of their Enviroview windows and lack of information regarding the manufacturer and warrantees.

We currently have 10 twin wood casements which seem to be larger than the normal stock window sizes (few examples: 46"x58", 55"x45", one as large as 46"x70"). We are also looking to replace 2 fixed skylights as well as the gutters, fascia and soffits around our home. We would love to stay in casements but are not opposed to vinyl replacement options for the sake of cost & lower maintenance. A good warranty that is transferrable is important to us.

Mad City’s quote was $23,746 (tax waived) but this was for a “conversion” to sliders not for casements but did include all of the additional work listed above. They also guaranteed that there would be no surprise charges such as replacing rotted wood or adding insulation during install (although not included in their fine print). The reason for the cancellation is not primarily the cost (which seems to be a high end price for a mid-grade window from what we have read) but rather the misrepresentations made by the salesman (who also back-dated the contracts by 1 day, which we feel was a shady way to lessen our right to cancel by 1 business day).

Please let us know which window manufacturer/product line you feel we should go with that will give us best quality within the same or lesser price range and who you would recommend in this area who would be in business 20 years from now to honor their workmanship guarantee.

Brandon at HomeSealed is without equal in the industry.
