Sliding patio door and front door installation
Sliding patio door and front door installation
I know for windows it seems everyone agrees that low expansion foam is a must on the install. I assume the same would be said for sliding patio doors and a front entry door or am I wrong on this?

Same rationale as TWN indicated.
Probably even more important on a door install as the larger openings are less square than the smaller ones in many cases.

A difficult area to seal sometimes is the threshold.
So watch it.

Re: Sliding patio door and front door installation
I'm not doing the install, I am looking at getting a new entry door and when I ask different companies about the install I want to see what they say about the install and what they do to seal it up. If they don't use foam I won't go with them as I don't feel like they are as current as they should be.

Re: Sliding patio door and front door installation
I wouldn't quite go that far.
If the gap is tight, using foam vs. sealing with backer rod and/or sealant is not a big deal either way.
Is it a plus and does it indicate that the company is using the latest and greatest...yes. Would I eliminate someone that will otherwise get it sealed up tight, no.

WOW is being gracious.
Re: Sliding patio door and front door installation
I just try and go off of what you guys, the experts, do/use and swear by and if foam is what you all use that is what I want. Had this board not existed I wouldn't have a clue about anything including the low expansion foam. I remember one guy came out selling Slocumb windows and how efficient they were vs everyone else only to find out the reason it was lower than others was due to the hard low e-coating based on what some said on this forum. Not that it was a wrong measurement but it seems like it was a little misleading as it seems there is a trade-off with the hard vs. soft low-e. If I can learn just a little bit it goes a long way. Thanks to you all.
