Okna Starmark 900 vs Pella Impervia replacement windos

#1 Post by tjcarst »

Full replacements, not pocket install.

6 windows, one patio door, two small basement windows.

Okna $9459 ** edit ** quote did not include two hopper basement windows
Pella Impervia $6800
Pella 450 $7600

Also considered Pella 450 wood windows. I prefer the look of wood, but realize the composite will likely be longer lasting.

Which would be a better replacement window, the Okna or Impervia, both composite? There is so much information out there I am having a hard time trying to put it all together to make a good choice.

Any advice from anyone who has knowledge on both? Has it installed in their own home?

There isn't much comparison between those two (Starmark and Impervia) to be honest. If you feel the two side by side, one is the Little Piggy straw home vs. the brick one.

Thanks for your reply.

Seeing the two side by side would definitely be helpful. Not really possible, unfortunately.

The windows are going into a home I have lived in for the past 22 years that came with Shelter wood windows that have some damage from the elements.

I don't really need a high end window, but if they are close in price to one another, then I would want the nicer window.

Hopefully, the Okna Starmark quote still has some room to come down some.

Good insight above. I'd also look at the objective data on each. U factor, air infiltration, etc.... As WoW stated, not even in the same ballpark.

What you are essentially doing is comparing a lower quality window ( pella) to one of the best performing windows available ( starmark ).
No comparison. Starmark is miles above.

I do understand that one is high end and one not. The high end is higher in cost so I would expect it to be better. If the two are closer in cost, it is a much easier decision.

I still like the appearance of the wood windows better :-( That is an option with the Starmark that adds even more to the cost above.

The company selling the Okna 900 refuses to sell the 800 vinyl or any other vinyl window.

If I go to their website, I see they used to sell Soft-Lite windows. Now their only offering is the Okna 900.

We get extreme heat and cold in Nebraska. I am curious if they had issues with Soft-Lite? I'll ask the salesman.

It may be less a function of arrogance and more a function of what product they have access to as well.

For a production type sales organization, I see benefit in streamlining the product offerings.

To be fair, some company owners have their "weapon of choice "so to speak. He may really like the Starmark and to him, its the best window for whatever reason. Of course thats his opinion but as a business owner, thats certainly his perogative.

Update - misunderstood quote, updating prices. Laminate not quoted. One Okna quote did not have patio door.

Updaate 2 - trying to fix all the info that was wrong on first post due to miscommunication. Missing basement windows takes price from $8549 - 9459. ouch!

May decide to go with Okna including patio door at $9549.

Thanks for everyone's advice!

You made a good choice. The Starmark is one of the most solid windows in our industry.
I've offered Starmark for years and my installers like it because it installs nicely due to it being so solid.
