Sun Load options for new windows

#1 Post by kanecats »

Hello All-Am considering Okna 500 or 800 series windows for the front of my home. All 7 windows are South West-Westward facing and get pelted with sun from mid morning until 8pm in the summer. Added to this, a cathedral ceiling in the 2nd floor master, and the room heats up quickly. Same goes with the Foyer window (one solid 2 pane window). My question is what would be the best options to reduce the heat load of the summer, take advantage of the sun in the winter and get the best efficiency?

Also, how much of a reduction in noise would there be if I went to a triple pane in the master bedroom, and approximately how much of a price difference would that be over double (ballpark).

Unless the home is truly designed for passive solar, the triple pane is going to give you better performance.
