#1 Post by steven6003 »

I have got two contractor quotes that are comparable in price, but I am researching the two different windows that they want to use...

Pretty similar units as they were designed by the same guys.

I would say that the Simonton product is backed by a larger company is about the only differentiator on product.

How do the installers compare?

Wincore was started by a former simonton guy. As far as simonton being a bigger company, a larger company can sometimes have a tougher time when hit with a recession because there is so much overhead. Sometimes a smaller company runs a much leaner operation and is able to withstand a serious slow down in the economy. Just look what happened to GM and Lehman Brothers.

Not products that I deal with daily, but I think that the Wincore 5400 is closer to the Simonton 5500 than the 5300.

Good catch HomeSealed.

I get the numbers confused as I haven't seen the Wincore window in years.

A long while ago the Simonton 5500 was my preferred offering.
Then I became concerned about air infiltration and moved to draft free windows.
Three mfgs that offer draft free windows are OKna, Soft-lite, Sunrise.
There are others and it is easy to tell if they are draft free, look at the structural test reports for air infiltration. <.09 is the minimum standard, better yet and what I suggest is < .05.
