Log home replacement windows

#1 Post by iowa » Sat Apr 15, 2017 3:14 pm

I am looking for a window brand that offers composite or faux wood interior that looks realistic. I like the Marvin Intrigity Everwood but they do not offer the option of a red exterior and just a bit pricey. Sunrise interior wood grain looks a bit fake next to the log walls. Also had looked into Pella and Renewals by Anderson but overrated, in my opinion. Read on this site about Okna Starmark but have not been able to locate a dealer/installer yet.
Any suggestions? We live in Iowa. Thanks!

Not sure you will find the Starmark in your neck of the woods.

Have you considered just having Marvin paint the windows for you? Depending on the numbers in the project, a custom paint option may not be that bad if spread out over all the windows.

Everything will be a bit pricey based on the look that you want.
Look at E series by AW. It is also known as Eagle. You can get E series in over 50 clad extruded aluminum exterior colors, real wood interiors, and option for prestained. That will give you the look you want.
What part of high performance affects your decision? Compare AL, U, and DP testings for each product.

Thanks for your help and information! I will look into Marvin painting the exteriors. I did locate a supplier of Starmark windows in Cedar Falls, Iowa. From what I understand the Okna Starmark windows is a quality efficient window and may have the look I am going for the interior.
This is where the struggle is locating a high performance window, aesthetics and affordability, lol!

If you have a Starmark near you, that is a great option that can be ordered painted (red) and has the wood-look laminate that can be painted or stained.

I agree, I have researched them quite a bit and have read very positive reviews.

The price point will be less than an aluminum or fiberglass clad wood window, plus it will be much more air tight.

The vinyl windows you mention are not very good.
The AW units in vinyl are to be avoided, some of the clad wood lines are duarable and nice looking: 400 Woodwright, A series, and E series; lacking in the AL department, and expensive.

I feel like that mention of those two brands was alphabetical? They are the first two, with regards to that order that i can think of.

Another vote for Starmark/Okna 900. If you see the stainable laminate sans finish you may not be impressed, however once stained it looks very nice. The hand staining is the key factor in adding a higher level of "real wood" look IMO.
