Window Replacement Recommendations (North Carolina)

#1 Post by pdubious »

I"m looking at getting 6 windows replaced for my home in Raleigh. So far I've received quotes from companies for the following:
+ Preservation EnergyMaxx4 @ $620/window
+ Slocom 677 @ $630/window
+ Slocom 144 @ $558/window

I'm still waiting on a quote from installer that uses Sunrise, but I feel like my options are pretty slim. Do any of you guys have suggestions of installers in the area? What are your thoughts on the above quotes so far?

Thanks!

I would ask you the following:
Why are you replacing the windows?
What are you replacing?
What is your goal?
How long do you plan on staying in the house?
Will this be the start of doing all other windows?
If energy savings and comfort are important to you then look at structural test results for any window you are considering. If you are looking at double hung windows I suggest AI/AL <.05

Neither of the Slocombs are bad windows by any stretch.

Commonly thought of as good brands are going to be your Soft-Lite (Elements and Imperial LS), Sunrise Restorations, Okna, Kensington Quantum 2.

I would definitely get a quote from one or more of those other brands to splash into the mix.

I would also drop the Preservation quote out.
