Replacement windows comparison

#1 Post by happy0506 »

I'm replacing 4 windows in my master bedroom. I live in the suburbs of Chicago. My bedroom faces southwest, so it bakes in the summer. I'm deciding between:

- Alside Ultramaxx Vinyl Triple Pane - Ufactor of .23
- Beechworth Fiberglass/Wood Double Pane - Ufactor of .28

I am concerned about the amount of heat that comes in through the windows in the summer, but will there a be a noticeable difference of a window with .23 vs .28 Ufactor?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

You would want to compare the solar heat gain numbers for that comparison.
My guess is they would not be much different, but if depends on the glass package.

Two pretty different materials options there.

0.23 out of a triple pane window is pretty mediocre these days and todd is correct in that you need to be looking at the SHGC numbers to talk about how it is going to feel in the bedroom.

That being said, normally double pane is adequate for solar control in Chicago and any triple pane should be more than sufficient.
