Aluminum support Struts

#1 Post by shamus »

I have had 4 qoutes for windows . (Aluminum support Struts )Only one of them talked about these stuts from keeping the window from ever warping , bending And so on . Are they as vital as the salesman infured ? Or does a window without them be just fine .

I highly doubt that the "aluminum struts" that your salesman referred to would be a standard feature in all your windows.

Aluminum reinforcement is usually added to vinyl windows that exceed the standard "reasonable" sizes of windows. For instance, 32" is usually the maximum size for a vinyl casement, or 42" is sometimes a maximum width for a vinyl double hung without rigid aluminum reinforcement. Vinyl is flexible, and the idea is that the aluminum adds some rigidity to the frame or sash. The aluminum struts would only be added to vinyl windows that exceed a certain width, as specified by the window manufacturer's engineering department.

If the company specifically mentions that as a selling feature, it may well be worth it, if the other brands (of comparable size) do not offer such a feature.
