Hi Everyone,
Several of us in a condo community are looking at replacing the slider windows in our units. Would have prefered either double hung or casement, unfortunately, we are restricted to sliders/gliders. (Which are notoriously not good to begin with) Knowing that a window is only as good as the installer, we have a reliable contractor (a friend of mine) who has installed many windows in the past, though the lines he's installed tend to be out of our price range.
After researching we are more confused then ever. So we need advice on what windows to choose! Our price range is approx. $200-$250, $300 tops {not installed} for an average size window (5'x3'). From everything we've read so far, stay away from the Pella Thermastar line at Lowes, that the Silverline American craftsman line at Home Depot, isn't much better, though we see that no one has specifically reviewed the 8800 and 8700 series.
In my previous home I had Lincoln double hung wood with vinyl clad windows, which for the north east weather worked well. (Kept out the cold in the winter, and kept in the AC in the summer, no air leaks or condensation) Does anyone, have any knowledge how reliable the Lincoln slider windows are?
So given these parameters and price range, any advice on which brand of vinyl replacements to choose, and what series to select???
We thank you all in advance. :D

If you contractor is buying them, $200-300 and opening should cover a pretty good amount of the good sliders in the market today.

We are buying them, and would appreciate a brand recommendation.

Window brands and customer support can be regionally affected. What area of the country/state are you in?
