Help Me Choose - its so confusing!

#1 Post by shesallthat » Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:06 pm

I have 22 windows to replace. I got a Simonton quote (home depot) for over $13,000, Slocumb for $7900, True View Interstate (which no one seems to have heard of) for $10,900 and they will also have the wood trim that my windows currently have, Gorell triple pane kryton gas $13,200 or the double pane for $11,600 and also a quote for the softlite barrington for like $8300. I live in NJ and all of the salesmen said that these windows come with lifetime warranties including craftsman ship and when asked what is not covered they said "nothing". Do I really need a triple pane window with kryton gas in NJ - can I get away with a .30 U factor. Has anyone heard of Interstate windows? Are any of these windows mentioned problematic or not so great? Should I only consider a window with under the .30 factor? Help!!

Of the windows you listed, I don't think you'd go wrong with the Gorells. Whether or not you should get the krypton/triple pane depends on how important the extra energy savings is to you. I say that you should get the best you can afford, so if you can do the triple pane, then go for it.

And yep...the .30 U is important. Anything higher than that you'll lose out on getting that tax credit.

Sounds like you are on info overload.
Throw out the ones you know you do not want.
Narrow your search to two products then look for the best installer you can find.

On the Gorrell windows what is the series you got quoted on, 5300?.
Take a look at the Okna, and Okna Starmark.

Not only are you buying a product but the service of an installer.
If you find a contractor/installer you like and they did not present the product you like best ask them to quote the product you like.
