Wincore 5400

#1 Post by AmyT »

I'm considering Wincore 5400 replacement windows. Any opinions on these? I also got the price for Simonton 5500, Wincore 5400 are about $600 less.

Don't know anything about Wincore's. Simonton 5500's are good windows though. How many windows?

19 windows. Five are pretty large, colonial type double hung windows that go down to the floor.

Wincore is a company that was started by the Simonton executives after they were bought out.

The 5400 is a decent window but probably not as well regarded at the Simonton 5500.

The ones that "go down to the floor need to be tempered. At least the bottom sash does.

I am also trying to find some info on Wincore windows. The dealer that I am planning on going through suggested both Wincore and Gorell to me for replacement windows. I got a quote for both, and the Gorell brand came in 2k higher than the Wincore. If anyone has any info, please share. I have been able to search the web and find that Gorell looks like it has great reviews. But it looks like Wincore is a new company and I can't find any reviews.

Apparently we're grandfathered in with the tempered glass issue, but one of the windows is pretty high up looking over the driveway (others are low to the ground and have furniture in front of them.) Since I have two young daughters that can sometimes get silly and rambunctious, I added the tempered glass in the window that overlooks the asphalt driveway. I'm grateful my installer mentioned the current code, I had not thought of that at all.

I went ahead with the Wincore 5400, will let ya'll know how they turn out! Thanks!

What do you mean you are "Grandfathered in" with the tempered glass issue? AFAIK when replacing windows you must comply with the current code. If it requires tempered glass, you must use tempered glass. It doesn't matter whether the existing glass is tempered or not.

Someones granpa is a pulling your leg. Codes must be met.
yes you can put a handrail in front and avoid tempered glass. But why?Just throw the correct glass in it and be done. Retail should be about 75-100 a window up-charge.

There is no grandfathering when it comes to code compliance in terms of safety.

I posted up the code just for clarification on a commonly misquoted item.

That being said, I always recommend it for persons that have children and there is any concern whatsoever. Glass and money can be replaced....loved ones and facial scars cannot.

The Wincore 5400 is their lowest end product. It is comparable to the Simonton 5050. If you want an apples-to-apples comparison, compare the Wincore 7700 to the Simonton 5500. Both are very similar windows and they are priced almost identically. You can't go wrong with either one. But I would definitely opt for the 7700 over the 5400.

AmyT, what do you think of the Wincore 5400 windows? I'm looking into this window myself and am looking for opinions.

When it comes to safety, it is a cheap investment.
