replacing 1960s wood prehung windows?

#1 Post by singingjanitor »

My house, built in 1962, has wood single pane windows with aluminum triple track storm windows mounted to the blind stop. They appear to be a pre fab type of window.

What is the best approach to replace. I do not like the look of wrapping the exterior, so will repaint the brick mold which is solid.

Looking the windows over, it would seem they could be removed from the inside, providing the interior trim was removed.

Most of the how to's seem to address older window styles, so I'd like to hear from anyone familiar with replacing these I have.

Haven't settled on a brand, primarily looking at the local home stores here Lowe's,Menards, etc. Jeld - Wen windows are made in the area and seem to be widely used

Thanks
