I have a 28" wide opening and the window is 27.5" (long story short it should have been 27.75"). The stops are 1/2" on each side so I should have 1/4" overlap but the groove around the window seems provide minimal overlap. Does the outside of the groove provide enough contact to the trim/stop for a good seal or should I get a larger window? It seems like the caulking should take care of the seal but I don't want this to haut me later.

Note, the pictures show what looks to be a gap, but it's actually the grove, so the outside of the grove is touching the stop.

That will be fine. A nice bead of caulk (I recommend OSI Quad) will cover that and seal it up. Be sure to insulate around the frames as well, preferably with a low-expansion, closed-cell expanding foam made for windows and doors.

HomeSealed, thanks again, that's good to hear! Already got some OSI Quad caulking so I should be good to go.
