Who really makes the "Best Vinyl Replacement Window"?

#1 Post by Evansbuilthomes »

I am a local Home Builder in the Southern Indiana/Louisville Ky market. I have done replacement windows in the past (Soft Lite) and have been doing more recently (Alside). There are so many brands out there and I want to know which brands are the best to use for my customers that I would be proud to stand behind and still be competitive price wise?

Are you asking for new construction or replacement?

What is it that you want to be able to offer? Energy savings? Design options? How important is pricing?

Are you unhappy with the SoftLites and Alsides you've installed?

No. I'm not unhappy with either. I am competing with a lot of different window brand companies out there. For Example, Primax, Window World, Americas Windows, Gilkey. I am trying to find an edge over these larger companies. What I need to be able to tell my potential customer is why my product is better for them as opposed to the others.

The Alside window I typically sell is the Excalibur that meet the energy star ratings. I did the same with the Softlite DH series. Are these windows the better choice compared to the larger companies? Is there a better product comparable to what I am using? There a so many choices out there and customers utilize the internet researching trying to find the best before making a purchase. There's one brand with a "Consumer's Guide" endoresement and another with "Good Housekeeping".

Energy is a key factor along with price. Design wise, most people don't get too fancy.

Price and availability ultimately depend on where you are located as well.

Take a look at the contractors section of the other board and you will get some more directed advice.

A builder's application is quite different than for a homeowner in a remodeling capacity.

Some of the remodeling products are not even available in a new construction format and I appears that he wants contractor feedback on price as well.

The window that he is mentioning in previous posts (Soft-Lite) is certainly one of the upper echelon brands available.

Vinyl windows can be very regional depending on the manufacturer.

I have noticed that the Alside has the "Goodhouse keeping" seal along with the Consumer Digest Best Buy on Replacement windows last year.

Alside is DEFINITELY NOT an upper end window and the fact that good housekeeping gives their seal of approval on a window like that is laughable.
