I just received a quote for 17 Gorell 5300 with AC master. I also had them quote upgrading to Energy Master III for $65 more a window.
I live in KC. Is the upgrade to triple pane worth $65 per window? That would put us at the high end of our budget, so I just wanted expert advice on whether it is worth it in my climate. Also, would it help noise reduction that much?
Thanks for looking.
Gorell AC Master vs Energy Master
Re: Gorell AC Master vs Energy Master
If the upgrade to TP is only $65. more per window, I would definitely go with it. There is no real difference in sound transmissions between DP and TP. If you are interested in reducing sound, you need to add laminated glass and vary the thickness.

how do you vary the thickness?
Re: Gorell AC Master vs Energy Master
By using 2 pieces of glass of different thickness. You will get a higher STC rating this way than you will using 2 with the same thickness.anthony wrote:how do you vary the thickness?

Is it important to use the irght interbonded layer?
Re: Gorell AC Master vs Energy Master
You might want to do an analysis on your current energy bills and then apply the difference in energy efficeny between the double pane and triple pane.
It would take 12 years for me to breakeven from double pane to triple pane in the Milwaukee area. U-factors were 0.21 vs 0.28. I was at a $60 upcharge for triple pane.
