Hi all. Newbie here. Glad to have found you.
I live outside of Chicago and have 20yo vinyl double hung two-pane windows with encased muntins. Many (23) have lost their seal or are cracked.
Called the usual suspects for full replacement and estimates over $20k so no go.
Local guys can order replacement glass IGU(?) (supposedly higher quality) and replace on-site for $3k.
Questions:
Does the $3k seem reasonable? He's estimating $100/window + $700 labor.
I'd like to explore a DIY on this but don't know where to order the windows.
Should I leave this one to the experts?
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Replace sash only
I would think you could do much better price-wise than $20K for 23 windows. I'd shop around a little before commiting to anything. You might be surprised at the quality and value available for much less than the quote you have.

Thanks Sky,
I did get a couple other quotes but still $14-$20k (the high was Anderson, the low was Feldco) is too rich for me at this point.
Take care

Seems pretty cheap for even glass. Be carefull, and don't pay up front for IG units. Also make sure you have something in writing about the Glazing Beads, as they may be brittle and want to break.
