Simonton 5500 window dimensions

#1 Post by jschu121 »

Does anyone have an extra DH 5500 hanging around? I'm trying to determine the distance between the outside of the window frame to the base of the screen housing. This is the part that will typically but up against the sash stop and face outside.

I called Simonton and they sent CAD drawings, but the drawings don't include this dimension. I'll attach them in case they help anyone else. I can see the distance on the bottom, but not the top and sides.

I stopped by the local lumber yard, but they only had an installed window. This area was partially covered by oak trim, and thus I couldn't get an accurate measurement. I'm thinking it's ~3/4"-1". Would anyone be willing to measure one of their extra windows? I've also put a call into my dealer to get a sample that I can measure, but not sure how quick that will be. Thanks as always.

Thanks Anthony. I will say Simonton did eventually get back to me.

I would use Okna or Soft-lite.

I used Simonton 5500 series as my primary vinyl window for 5+ years.
I had some QC issues and wanted to find a better thermal window, as in AL.
The AL proved very significant last winter on the winder days and I got air infiltration complaints from my Simonton customers.
Also they will not sell to me directly because of the distribution network they have in my areas.
I do not think it is a bad or substandard window just #3 on my preference ranking.
