Central NJ - Need Advice

#1 Post by NiRo »

Hi All,

I need to replace about 16 windows for my 17 year old house based out of NJ. I have been calling in contractors and my head has been spinning with all the options. So far, I have called Anderson, Thermotite, and Sunrise Windows. At this point, I want to really hear GOOD recommendations for window manufacturers for the area - and then potentially the best companies/contractors to install them. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated as this is going to be a huge cost but also a potentially huge savings in energy bills (if done right).

Thanks in advance!

Most of the time we don't recommend installation companies unless they are people that we personally know and are board contributors...i.e. HomeSealed in Wisconsin, Buddy in NY/CT, Randy in TX, Anthony in PA/TX, EcoStar in VA, etc.

What most pros will recommend are brands that we know to be top notch.

The short list that you will hear repeated on a pretty regular basis are Gorell, PlyGem, Soft-Lite, Sunrise, Simonton, and Okna.

While I wouldn't put PlyGem at the top of that list, I've used their Great Lakes product in the past with great success, and would consider it a very solid mid-upper - range vinyl product. Would you care to provide reasons for your "dislike"?

Thx guys - has anyone heard of Verde by Sunrise Windows and can provide some opinions on it? Is it equivalent to the Okna 800 or 500 series?

Verde is made by Sunrise. It is an upgrade of the standard Sunrise window in that it comes with Sun Clean Glass and some additional foam in the frames.

The Okna 800 is far superior to the Sunrise Essentials. The 800 is more comparable to the Sunrise Restorations, or maybe even Vanguard/Verde.

Okna 800 is a world beater at the end of the day.

I cannot offer any personal commentary as a result of my own inspection of AGM's work, however, I have spoken with two customers that were very happy with the finished product and process.

The lines of self-promotion have been crossed in the past but that is nothing new for the board by any stretch.
