Odd Sized Windows
Odd Sized Windows
My home has several 52 X 52 horizontal slider windows.
The problem is that this type of window does not allow an A/C window unit to be installed, and I want to do that in my master bedroom.
I know that the windows will be custom ordered, but will the window be strong enough to hold a small A/C unit if I have it supported outside?
Thanks

Depends on the weight of the AC.
Generally yes, i would put wood strpin the bottom track of the replacement window so that there is no pressure point on the vinyl.

Most can but anthony's advice is recommended regardless. You should want some sort of isolator to take off the pressure points.

You may want to consider a portable air conditioner. They sit on the floor in the room on rollers and the vents go through a plate that fits up in the window opening. That would solve the problem of having all that weight sitting up in the new window.

I like that option as well. I've never been fond of an AC unit in a horizontal slider.

Point of record...that window will leak air when it is half open like that at the meeting rail because of the lack of the interlock and weatherstripping contacting.

That's why you should always go to the hardware store and get an "air conditioning foam kit" so you can stuff the grey foam between the two sashes.Windows on Washington wrote:Point of record...that window will leak air when it is half open like that at the meeting rail because of the lack of the interlock and weatherstripping contacting.
As an installer, I always kept a half dozen of these with me on the truck at all times for A/C units.
