united 4800 series vs pella vinyl at Lowes

#1 Post by mike700 »

We have a 100 year old house in need of 8 basement custom replacement windows, 18"x32". We are replacing the wood frame around the windows as well. Lowe's wil replace wood and install United Series 4800 for $4200 with a great warranty. We have read the reviews reporting the United series are inferior windows, but on a budget does it sound worth it in order to have the frames replaced for such a good price? Are the United Series 4800 going to leak during rain in the New York area?

Sounds pretty expensive to me, but I am not familiar with that window or pricing in your area.

I am not a fan of those windows, they are on the lower end. You can probably get a much better brand for the same or lower price..

Why would you put wood back in? Why not direct mount the window into the masonry ?
If you do put in a wood buck it will need to be pressure treated. You need to use stainless steel fasteners and have to pure wrap any capping. Theses are things you would not normally ask about, know, or even see.

+1

Not a fan of any of the brands you mentioned and not at the price points listed.

Keep shopping.
