What happens when a company changes their name/license#?

#1 Post by J-Windows »

One of the top companies I was looking at just in the last few weeks did a "voluntary termination" of the license, and got a new license for a new company under a new name. The new name and old name only differ by a minor bit, and they just routed their old URL to the new one and used the same website with just the minor name change amended.

But if a company does this, does that mean that any labor warranties and contracts granted under their previous name are now null and void? Or does law require them to carry over their old warranties and contracts?

this is somewhat common. some companies slightly change their name to fully encompass all the jobs they perform ect..example, joes windows.. now they do siding and roofs so its joes remodeling... i know power did this.. some companies have old names and just want a better sounding name.. and then there are some companies that change it because they have too for not so great reasons.. it really depends.

The warranties etc would only cease to exist if it was an entirely new business entity. The name could be changed completely and the warranties would still be valid if it is still the same original company.

+1

A good company will carry over the warranty and a bad one will look for anyway out.
