Replacement windows in MN
Replacement windows in MN
I am getting quotes on vinyl replacement windows in the Mpls/St. Paul area. Have a quote from Window World (8300 for 13 DH and 1 Slider-4000 series) and meeting with Champion next week. Any other ideas? Thanks.

+1. Both of the choices that you've listed nymnjim won't even come close to those numbers in comparable products to those that anthony mentioned.anthony wrote:Three of my favs are HiMark, Soft-lite, Sunrise.

How does price compare with the soft-lite vs the $8300?
Re: Replacement windows in MN
I had a dozen window quotes in the area recently. Unless you're going to move out soon or rent it, go with a good quality window. For about 20%-30% more cost (than a real cheap brand, 30% LESS cost than a big-name mediocre brand) you'll get a window with lifetime glass/screen/window (including accidental breakage) that'll actually last longer than your house and be several orders of magnitude more energy efficient and airtight. Otherwise expect to have to replace a few every 5-10 years.

That depends on your specific circumstances, product line, and the pricing structure of each individual dealer... If you have pretty average install/option content, at nearly $600 per unit you should be in the ballpark of a top tier product.nymnjim wrote:How does price compare with the soft-lite vs the $8300?

You should be able to get into a much, much better window at that mark.

Just had Champion here. $11,000 for the same 14 windows. I almost fell off my chair. I have 2 soft-lite companies coming over in the next week.

Re: Replacement windows in MN
look at the Imperial LS or Elements.
Each SL dealer wil probably have one or the other.

I have been looking at the Imperial LS and the Elements. Could someone give me a down and dirty difference between the two? They look the same to me except for the different glass choices. Going to be hard to compare between the two. Only one company in the area has the Elements and 3 have the Imperial LS.

Very, very close product. It is based on the same design with just a few bells and whistles that separate them. The Elements has very slightly better ratings, and is considered the "flagship"... Due to the fact that they are sooo close, I would not make your choice based on product between those two, but rather on whichever dealer you feel most comfortable with, and feel will do the best installation.

At that level of performance and quality, the differences are all in the install.
Great choices. You will be happy with either provided the install is correct.

Got a quote yesterday for Imperial LS windows. For 14 windows is it worth going to the triple pane for an extra $580.00? That is supposedly half off.Total without triple pane is $9850.00.

Yes, that's a good price. He's making no profit on the upgrade at all.nymnjim wrote:Got a quote yesterday for Imperial LS windows. For 14 windows is it worth going to the triple pane for an extra $580.00? That is supposedly half off.Total without triple pane is $9850.00.
