Best Basement Windows?
Best Basement Windows?
I am replacing three windows in a finished basement (Indiana). So far, I have received a quote for the 350 series by Pella.
What other brands should I check into? We have Simonton windows on the main floor and have had seal issues (although all have been repaired no charge and with relative ease). I believe there is an Okna dealer in Indianapolis.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

What type of operator is the window?
Simonton makes a solid window and the most commonly recommended brands on this site will be Soft-Lite, Okna, HiMark, Sunrise, and Gorell.
The Pella 350 is a nice unit as well minus the pocket sill aspect of it. What number did they come in at on that window?

Re: Best Basement Windows?
Pella was $2400 for three 350 series sliders. One of the windows is pretty small. The other two are larger. This was for triple pane.
I have an Okna dealer/installer coming soon also for an estimate. Same with Simonton.

You have a nice batch of choices there. The Pella may be the weak link with the pocket sill and their reputation for customer service is not stellar in recent years. I think that you are going to really like the Okna.

I also think you will find the Okna to be a great choice.

The local Okna dealer/installer quoted $1700 for their 520 Dx windows. Quite a bit cheaper than Pella.

Not only a better price.
A better design and better thermal and structural performer.

Win - Win situation.
Re: Best Basement Windows?
Any reason to put in double hung windows in the basement? The windows are behind blackout shades almost all the time. I have had them price sliders so far.

What is the shape of the window...i.e. width and height?

Re: Best Basement Windows?
That is an odd shape for a double hung when the window is square. Tends to look "squatty".
That size is better suited for a slider or awning.

I went ahead and chose the Okna 520 dx sliders (2-lite). They are double-paned, foam insulated, argon, and no grid inbetween the panes. Total is about $1700 for two 45x45 and one 30x17.
I appreciate all the help.

Great choice! I agree that the slider would be more natural in that opening.
