Sunrise Verde vs. Okna 800 (Envirostar)

#1 Post by JHandy »

I'll try to keep it simple. 10 DH and a combination window (Casement Picture Casement). Got two comparable quotes between two local companies - Sunrise Verde vs Okna 800. All things being similar (options, installation, etc), which window would you go with?

Okna 800.
There Verde is nice assuming that it is optioned out comparably (sash reinforcement, foam frames, composite spacer), but the Okna will still be ahead in each performance area (u value, air infiltration, design pressure), and it has those nice metal lift handles to boot.
The comparison is close enough that I'd give sufficient weight to the installation company that you feel is more trustworthy. On product alone, the Okna would be my preferred choice. :)

At the risk of sounding like a homer, I prefer the 800 of that line up as well.

The Verde is great but not quite as structural or solidly built as the 800.

I agree with HomeSealed and Windows on Washington, and I'm a Sunrise dealer. If the price is close and the installation is comparable, Okna's 800 is the way to go.

Sounds like the Okna 800 deluxe is the way to go. I had my heart set on the Verde until masterext came by and presented the 800. Pricing was slightly better on the 800 as well.

One could go back and fourth regarding which window has better features and benefits as both are great windows. Strength and performance goes definitely goes to the 800, plus the exterior frame profile and metal lift handles are very attractive. The Sunrise product has really nice lines and the mortised locks and tilt mechanisms are really sleek. You wouldn't be disappointed with either one window wise. I would recommend the 800 in your case as a better price coupled by putting your project in the hands of Paul/masterext makes it a no-brainer.

I have sent the sister of one of my clients to him. That is about as ringing an endorsement as you will hear.

She was thrilled with the work.

Paul is definitely one of the good guys out there, top notch. Myself, nor any of the other window pros on these forums that have been recommending him over the last few years will have to worry about eating a plate of crow anytime soon. :D

One last - I live in central NJ. I originally was opting for the 800s in the double pane. If the cost is reasonable, is it worth it to go up to the triple option? I am not sure about the loss in VT (double .53 triple .42). Is the .42 a significantly darker window?

In that product line, the added efficiency will outweigh the minor loss in VT . If the price is right, it is generally the best choice for your climate.

Triple pane is certainly a valuable upgrade in your climate.

This is good information. I'm considering triple pane as well, but had some concern on losing too much light.

in a real world setting, you are not going to lose that much light with triple. i just dont feel thats a valid reason to ignore triple pane. The new Okna 600 series is very sharp and has a triple pane glass package with argon and gets a .18 Ufactor.
