We're looking to replace seven leaky wood and aluminum windows with double-hung, half screen vinyl windows (two with grids). Three of our current windows are sliders, approx. 48" wide, but we want double-hung for all seven. So far we've been given two quotes, both of which seem high to us:
Champion: $4300
Alside Preservation: $7500 (yes, I know it's a better window, but...)
I should also mention that the Alside was a one-time only deal, and since we didn't take it (I don't respond well to pressure), the actual price is now almost $9000.
Can anybody who's familiar with window prices in central Virginia let me know if I can do any better than Champion's estimate and still get a quality product? We live in a working-class neighborhood with houses that are around 40 years old, so I don't think much of the argument that super-expensive windows will exponentially raise the value of our home.
thanks!

Are affordable windows just a fantasy?
