 Lowe's Reliabilt 7000 series windows

Author: JCL7000 (---.ms.com)
Date:

I have 10 old windows (9 windows+1 bathroom) and I am considering getting these windows and just wanting to know how they rate. The price quote I received was $4300 from the contractors that Lowe's uses for thier jobs.
I was wondering as I cannot afford to go above that price, if these were the best ones for that price quote. The quote includes removal of old windows, installation and capping and the windows themselbves based on the measurements they have.
I'm looking to do this within 4 weeks.

Others that i am interested in is the Certaintweed Bryn Mahr II, marvins and andersons. I would've liked the Schuco but I'm afraid it may cost too much.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks again

Marvins and Andersons are definitely going to be out of your price range at a limit of $430 per window installed.
The Certainteed Bryn Mahr II is hands down a much better window than the Reliabilt. I would never pay $430 a window for Reliabilt, but if you can get the Bryn Mahrs for that amount, that's not too bad of a price.
Depending where you are and who the dealer is, Schuco windows may not cost you that much over that. An extra thousand or so spent on them may be worth it in the long run to get the longevity afforded by the Schuco windows. Can't hurt to check it out.

Thank you for your response. I live in Long Island, NY (Nassau county) i have contacted sevaral Certainteed dealers/contractors and sending out the specs to them.
For the record, the 4 windows came out to $227, 5 windows came out to $192 and a bathroom window came out to $160-- total of $2027 (rounding the figures)

plus the capping, installation of the windows, installing interior moldings and removal of the old windows comes up to the total of $2123
Grand total of 4150 not including taxes.

I don't have much to play with so I'm just trying to get the best window for the dollar using licensed legit dealers/contractors.

2 windows have a measurement of 2'7W x 4'5 3/4" H

3 windows have a measurement of 2'7W x 4'1 3/4" H

1 window have a measurement of 2'4W x 3'9 3/4" H

1 windows have a measurement of 2'4W x 4'1 3/4" H

BATHROOM window have a measurement of 2'0W x 2'11 3/4" H

all of these windows i'm looking to have the grid design on them.

Help!
Thanks in advance.

At 10 windows for $4,150... you might be over-researching as you are pretty much assured to get what you are paying for. As I am also in New York and have a pretty good understanding of the local market... you are under-investing in the wrong places... especially in Long Island unless it's a rental property or you are looking to sell soon.

Thanks for the reply. No this is my home and unfortunately, there is so much that I can afford. I live in Long Island, so as this is new (and a big financial step for me ) please explain how I am under investing in the wrong places. Just looking to replace very old windows for my home for the amount of money i can afford to spend.
As you are aware owning a home here is expensive enough, so i'm trying to stay above financial waters...

thanks again.

John

Fair enough... but please don't take my response as an attack... but as what you asked for... an opinion. Quality, energy efficient windows have been rated with a 74% return upon install on the East coast. Given that property values have skyrocketed 40% in the past 2 years in the area we are speaking of and that energy costs are at a record high in history.... it creates a demand for certain upgrades.

The media, the Real Estate Market, and myself are all in favor of reducing the energy load on the New York electrical grid (also see NYSERDA and the EPA)and many efforts are being made to make people realize that sometimes it is actually more affordable to spend more initially for a greater return over time. The benefits not only include saving you more money every month on your energy bills, but you and every other taxpayer dealing with escalating energy requirements and the attached effects.

As I see by your email address (MorganStanley)... you believe in investments that give a greater return over time. You may want to do a little more research before spending a little less and having it's return disappoint you later on. Would you advise anyone entering your industry any differently?

Thanks for the reply and point taken.
question....if a contractor has a license with the county and is insured but does not have a membership with BBB should one be cautious about using him? even though he is listed in the Certainteed as a
Certainteed Window Master Craftsman?

I did receive a fair price for these windows
(although I'm not sure if there is more than one kind of Certainteed Bryn Mahr windows)

I'm still waiting for the Schuco contractor and the Simonton contractors to call me back.
Thanks again for your advice.

Also can you recommend a contractor in Nassau county?

Thanks Bill.
I have made a decision to either go with the Certainteed Bryn Mawr, Simonton impressions or Alside Excalibur (the Schuco is out of my price range)
The Certainteed was $200 more than the Alside. Any ideas on which one to go with?

I will call elegant today to get the prices from them

I looked at the NFRC site and they had different CPD #s for the with different U ratings for the window I was looking up
(example: the simonton impressions)there is so many different CPD's with the different U ratings...
how do I know what window to get based on that chart?

any advice on which one to get is appreciated.
I'm looking to get to make a decision before the week is out.

Also looking into Gorell windows as well either the 5200 or 5300 series. From what I 've they seem to be very good windows with a very good warranty (unlike the 5 yr warranty on Certainteed, which may make me scratch off the list.)
