FenEX, Can $300-$400 be a quality window?

Author: Greg (

I am looking to replace 20 windows. I have gotton a couple of quotes. One is a Revere window $325 installed each window. Another is Comfortworld for $275 a window. Is anyone familiar with these windows? Will I be sorry down the road? I am not employed right now so I can not afford Schuco or the better ones. What are the key parts I need to look at when checking out various windows? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Yes you can get a quality window for $300-$400 that will perform much better than those you are replacing. You will find hundreds of brands in that range. Granted, you will not be in the high performance market but will notice the improvement.

Look for Low-E (soft-coat) and Argon gas filled. Also, insist on a fusion welded frame and sash of virgin-vinyl. Look for a low U-factor and varify it on the Look for cleaner fusion welds, smooth corners and sashes that have multiple weatherstrips and atleast one bulb seal on the bottom. Open the bottom sash a few inches and rock it side to side to check for play (slop) as well. If you find two or more of the same quality (and you will), look for the best installer and the longest product warranty term with the least amount of print as most are 50-70% exclusions to coverage. Good Luck.

Fen ex is not an asset to this board....he is the board. Nobody else has dedicated as much time and effort to selfishly help people make the right call on their purchase. When he left i missed him and as a window and door professional i admire him.
