Marketing ploy? Or offering unbiased information?

Author: Matt (---.client.comcast.net)

My wife and I are currently looking for quality windows. Our first choices have been what we thought were the reputable, established window companies. As a responsible consumer, I have been doing research and happened on this site. After reading some of the topics here, I question if there is a hidden motive for the discussion board.

It seems the most major window manufacturers are bad mouthed by a concentrated group of responders that then admit they work for distributors of another smaller, lesser known window company. That is completely unprofessional and is indicative of the kind of work ethic you have. Any basic business course would teach you to state the facts and let the consumer decide. Like me, it turns most customers off.

Is this site run by and independent group of unbiased individuals? Or perhaps is this a front for a window company?

If this is a front for your company, the best thing to do is be up front with consumers, in a disclaimer.

This discussion board is not run nor owned by any window company.
It is an open forum, and as such, has people with many viewpoints posting here. Anyone can stick up for their favorite product and give the reasons why they think it is good, or give their opinion of other products why they think they are not as good.
If a product is spoken less favorably of, especially by many people, then there is probably a bit of truth to it.
Please tell us which products you feel are getting a bum rap, and which small companies are being promoted instead. I'm just curious because my observations have been that the top 100 manufacturers are represented here very strongly.

I also feel it's an open forum. Not owned by anyone other than a good man trying to help out the public. You would be doing him a great favor by going to the top and requesting data or a quote! We get nothing for what we do. I myself sell certain brands native to my area here in MN. I also use Pella products which I'm one of the few that fight for them. I also happen to live in a hotbed of window manufacturers. Marvin, Andersen, Hurd, Lindsey and numerous vinyl manufacturers are here in this state. Pella is just South of me in Iowa. My opinion just as FenX & Window4U are based off many years in the business. Our opinions are based off what we have used and seen in the industry. I myself have been in the industry for 30 years. I've installed and fixed many doors and windows in my life. So I do tell my opinion when I have strong feelings towards certain products or Companies. We have installed or still are installing for companies such as Sears, Home Depot, Lowes and National Contractors such as Ryland, Rottlund, Woodside Communities, Pulte and many more. So I think we can offer a good opinion on what we've seen or used. Are we bias? Yes we are at times. We just feel strong enough to stand up for what we feel gives you the customer the best product you can buy! I know a couple of us who don't even pitch our own companies at anyone out there. Sorry if your offended in anyway!

Very interesting post.

"Marketing Ploy? Or offering unbiased information?" This is followed by:

"Our first choices have been what we thought were the reputable, established window companies."

"It seems the most major window manufacturers are bad mouthed by a concentrated group of responders that then admit they work for distributors of another smaller, lesser known window company."

"That is completely unprofessional and is indicative of the kind of work ethic you have. Any basic business course would teach you to state the facts and let the consumer decide. Like me, it turns most customers off."

Matt... welcome to the Internet. These Major manufacturers you speak of, how have you heard of them? They advertise heavily (Marketing Ploy?). They also promote their features above the competition on every advertisement (offering unbiased information?).

The owners of this site have created an open forum for consumers, dealers and manufacturers. It allows sharing of information from everyone equally... not to be controlled by large budget advertisers using mass media efforts to give the impression that they are, "Major", "Reputable" and "Established". How about "Best"? Does that count? There are dozens of great, less advertised manufacturers that make much better products than you and your wife, as well as many consumers, are aware of.

Perhaps you should read the posts and the grateful results from consumers before casting out comments like "unprofessional" and questioning anyone's ethics. Your obvious reluctance to receiving "New" or "Different" information has given your post an insulting appearance.

I suggest selecting the most discussed and positively reviewed products... and take a careful look at them and post again. Then you can share if the suggestions were merely hype or a ploy... or if the posts are accurate. I am sure that the owners of the site as well as the dedicated posters will accept your apology at that point. Good Luck to you.
