 Louisiana-No schucco available

Author: max (---.lft.bellsouth.net)
Date:

What is the best vinyl window recommendation for my area?
I've already contacted Schucco, and received email answer stating no representatives available.
Looking for new construction vinyl alternative to Pella/Anderson wood clad windows.
Appearance is important, building a period home.
Pella wood clad estimate at $48,000. Any recommendations from the board's resident experts would be appreciated.

Sounds like opportunity is knocking. You may want to find your favorite local window dealer and tell them you would like to see the Schuco lines. Introduce them to the same information you have found. They can always contact Schuco to be considered for a dealership.

Hi Max
I, too, am from La. and am realizing how limited my options are in this region (in the market for vinyl replacements). I received info about Alside products (from Capital Improvement)but no one to my knowledge carries the top of the line series. There is a Certainteed dealer close by but I haven't contacted them yet. The NO Home & Garden show is coming up soon so I will be investigating as many vendors as possible and then I will try to make a wise choice. Having said that, probably anything is probably better than my 30 y/o aluminums.

Look at some of the following for LA-specific advice:

www.efficientwindows.org/factsheets/louisiana.pdf
http://www.lses.org/energysavingtips.html
http://www.dnr.state.la.us/SEC/EXECDIV/TECHASMT/programs/residential/builders_guide/Chapt6_EnergyEfficientHomes2002.pdf
http://www.leeric.lsu.edu/energy/caulking/

Note that low-emissivity coating recommendations are somwhat different for the deep south than for the far north.
