My post is not meant to criticise Window World, only to explain how the whole thing works with them in my area. I suspect it may be the same elsewhere since they are franchises, but I do not know for sure.
Window World here uses the bait of "Low Price" to get into your home, and then once inside, they charge you extra for everything it takes to get to what I would consider a normal installation. No different than a car dealership luring you in with the couple of extremely cheap cars advertised in the Sunday paper, and then selling you a car you really want for a lot more..
The $189. price for Window World where I live has:
a low end Alside window installed in a wood opening,
no metal window tearouts included
no exterior capped in aluminum
no old storm windows taken off for free
no Low-E glass
no argon gas
no filling of the weight boxes
no taking the old windows away
no woodgrain color
All these are added in at premium prices.
Their average real sales price here is actually 50-75 dollars a window more than my premium windows are.
Now to be fair, there is nothing "wrong" with their business tactics. They don't do anything deceptive once in the home. They do spell everything out for you while they are asking you questions, selling you, and filling out the contract.
And the installers here are pretty decent at their jobs, even though they only make about half of what my 25 year veteran installers make.
I have to give them one thing, their business plan really works to get in the home and get the sales. They do some pretty high volume here.
